AGURA HILLS, Calif. (AP) — The pilot escaped injury after his historic single-engine plane crashed and caught fire on a Southern California freeway Tuesday, authorities said.
The plane crashed into the central compartment of the United States. 101 and the pilot, the sole occupant, were safely removed before flames engulfed most of the plane, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
No vehicles on the scene were involved in the afternoon crash, which snarled traffic about 30 miles (50 km) west of downtown Los Angeles.
