The former Olympic volleyball player was attacked last Friday in downtown Los Angeles when a man threw a metal object at her face, breaking several bones in her face and swelling one eye, the athlete said in videos posted on social media. .

Kim Glass, the 2008 Olympic silver medalist in Beijing, was walking away on Friday afternoon when she saw a man running with something in his hand. He was on the other side of the car, on the road, when he threw the object - which he thought was glass, a metal pipe or bolt - in his face.

"It's like he's looking at me with hateful eyes," she said in videos posted on Instagram. "It happened so fast, he threw her off the road, and she was nowhere near me."
The man, identified by police as 51-year-old Semeon Tesfamariam, was detained until he was taken into custody by officers.
Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Officer Drake Madison said Tesfamariam was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held without bond. It is not yet known if he has an attorney to speak on his behalf or when he will appear in court.
Glass, of Los Angeles, posted videos showing injuries to his eyes, nose and jaw. He thanked the doctor for the stitches near his eyebrow, saying he was confident his eye would be fine.
